On 1st July 2019 Latvian Prison Administration started implementation of the Norwegian Financial Instrument 2014–2021 period programme "Correctional Services" pre-defined project "Establishment of Training centre infrastructure and model prison blocks for training opportunities in the Olaine prison territory". No. 1-6.4/2-2019  (hereinafter - Project).

In October 2019 working group "Development of Mentoring System" created within the framework of Project activity No.2 "Improvement and development of normative acts" visited the University College of Norwegian Correctional Service and the Romerike Prison to learn about partner practices regarding the Norwegian mentoring system and its regulatory framework.

The participants of the experience exchange visit highly appreciate the mentoring system procedures established by Norway. Many valuable insights and conclusions have been drawn, such as the design of classrooms, which are as close as possible to real premises in prisons and equipped with video and audio technologies that significantly improve the learning process. The experience gained during the exchange visit will be used when setting up the new Training Centre in Olaine Prison.
