Within the framework of the project, in 2020 the Latvian Prison Administration developed a new training program for mentors in order to provide the staff of correctional services with modern education appropriate for the sentence execution. Currently, the first group of students of the Latvian Prison Administration Training Centre is already testing the newly developed traineeship program with their mentors, so that at the end of the traineeship the representatives of the Training Centre could receive feedback from the mentors and make the necessary adjustments to the developed program.

An informative presentation is being prepared to inform Heads of Department of the Latvian Prison Administration about the processes of mentorship program in order to encourage prison staff to apply for the position of mentor.

The implementation plan of the mentorship program is as follows:

  1. Provision of information to prison staff,
  2. Application announcement,
  3. Establishment of a selection commission,
  4. Selection process,
  5. Training,
  6. Work as a mentor.

It is important to remember that the support of management and colleagues is an excellent resource for the successful implementation of future plans and achieving the common goal –professional and knowledgeable staff.

Working together for a safe and inclusive Europe.
