On Friday, 12th of January, topping out ceremony took place in the construction area of the Olaine Training Centre, marking the completion of the building's supporting structure. Traditionally, this ceremony occurs when the final structural beam is raised into place, completing the building’s frame.
With the construction of the Training Centre buildings, a new stage in the training process of employees in prisons will be initiated - officials and employees of prisons will be provided with the opportunity to learn in rooms suitable for the specifics of their work, using improved teaching content and new teaching methods for acquiring professional knowledge.
New Training Centre and new trainings will allow officials and prison employees to be provided with versatile knowledge and skills in order to perform their assigned duties more professionally and qualitatively, which will contribute to greater public safety..
The building of the Training Centre will be approximately 2,500 square meters wide, it will contain not only of training rooms for employees, but also include conference hall, museum of the prison system, reading room, service hotel, as well as sports and practical classes.
Training Centre will be captable to train 150 employees at the same time. It will also play a significant role in the process of training employees for the new Liepāja Prison, providing a learning environment and infrastructure appropriate for the new resocialization system.
The construction of the training centre is implemented within the framework of the project of the Latvian Prison Administration "Establishment of Training centre infrastructure and model prison blocks for training opportunities in the Olaine prison territory" Nr.1-6.4/2-2019 with financial support from Norway Grants.
The construction of the facility is being carried out by SIA “Pillar Contractor” under a contract for EUR 6 364 029.82 (excluding VAT), of which 85% is financed by the Norwegian Government or Norway Grants, and 15% by the Latvian state budget.
