On 11 January, a bilateral meeting was organised in the framework of the Norwegian grant programme "Correctional Services" for the period 2014-2021, which was attended by representatives of the Latvian Ministry of Justice and the Latvian Prison Administration and representatives of the Norwegian Correctional Services Directorate Kim Ekhaugen and Kristin Sauness Franklin.
During the visit, the delegations visited the Iļģuciems Prison - they got acquainted with the daily routine of the prison and the opportunities for inmates to improve in resocialisation programmes. During the visit, they had the opportunity to see the facilities where the inmates have the opportunity to study - to learn various crafts, including hairdressing, cooking, sewing, etc., as well as to obtain primary, secondary or vocational education.
During the meeting, discussions took place on bilateral activities for the period after the end of the Project (after 30.04.2024) and until the end of the Programme (31.12.2024).
The visit was organized in the framework of the Norwegian financial instrument project “Establishment of Training centre infrastructure and model prison block for training opportunities in the Olaine prison territory” implemented by the Latvian Prison Administration.
